Dormeur (Homage to Jeanclos)

Georges Jeanclos is one of my favorite sculptors. One of his common themes is the sleeper and I find them to be so moving that I decided to do a sleeper of my own. In spite of having his work in mind, which is always so redolent of death and dying, but also exquisitely tender and sweet, I found that no matter how I tried to move my sleeper into his world, I could not escape my own self. My sleeper is more tethered to life and feels almost safe in her sleep, though she is hemmed into her own experience with her dreams creeping out from under the pillowcases and nightmares slithering in under the bed.
