My work naturally finds its way to using archetype as a foundation for the expression of individual experience or variation. This one, with her apparently stunted wings, was an attempt to personify shame, or a fall from grace. Nike, winged Goddess of Victory, seemed to fit this rendering. Moreover, Victory represents something wonderful in being human that is, nevertheless, not immune to missteps and disgrace, but being Victory Incarnate inserts the certainty of some inherent power or capability. Thus, despite the immutability of her fall, might it not actually have engendered the sprouting of those wings?
